"My mission is simple -- to make beautiful things while empowering my community in the process." -Dira Adams
While working as a knitwear designer, Dira noticed that an increasing amount of garments were being produced oversees, despite local talent and capability. Dira wondered if her passion for knitwear could be used to effect change in her larger community. She had a vision of not only producing goods in her native New York and adopted home of England, but to also hire and train women in need in the art of knitwear production. Indirectly, she also wanted to use a portion of each sale to create art-focused empowerment programs in some of the poorest areas in New York.
Out of these passions for knitwear, craftmanship, and community, DIRA ADAMS was born.
